NEW! Have You Tried the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter Yet?

By this time, I'm sure many of you would have heard of or seen the brand spankin' new Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter around town. I thought they would be arriving to our shores in March but it looks like the release date has been pushed forward and we lucky folks can now get our grubby little hands on these babies.

There are eight yummy shades brought in locally; 020 Brown Sugar, 025 Peach Parfait, 030 Fig Jam, 070 Cherry Tart, 075 Lollipop, 080 Strawberry Shortcake, 085 Sugar Plum and 096 Macaroon. I tested them all at Watsons and fell in love with four of them. The other four were nudey pinks and browns that I don't tend to wear well.

Affordable and Effective Lipliners by SilkyGirl

Don't you just love it when you find a drugstore cheapie that actually works? I was honestly so chuffed when I came across these Silkygirl Long-Wearing Lipliners in Guardian. I don't really know much about the brand except that it is local and has a pretty good selection of very affordable cosmetics.

The Silkygirl lip pencil is an automatic liner and doesn't require sharpening (just my kind of thing). It comes in a simple plastic twist-up casing and is coloured to reflect the lipliner shade. The texture of these lipliners is waxy and slightly creamy.

I believe they offer five different shades and the ones I picked were in Nude and Rose. There are times when you want a more polished lip look and this is when lipliners really help to outline your lips and prevent lipsticks or glosses from feathering. Lip pencils can also help extend the wear of your lip products.

I sometimes wear lipliners on its own by filling out my entire upper and lower lip with the pencil and then adding a touch of lipgloss. It is quite a versatile product and is very pocketable since pencils are usually slim and can fit into almost anything.

Silkygirl cosmetics can be found in most local pharmacies (drugstores) nationwide and the Long-Wearing Lipliner retails at less than RM15 each. These lipliners are made in Germany.

Ushering In Chinese New Year with the Chanel Dragon

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon and I thought it is probably apt that I bust out two wonderful reds Chanel has created, to welcome the New Year. Dragons are the mightiest of the zodiac signs and they are fiercely independent and dominant creatures.

Both the Dragon Rouge Allure Laque and Le Vernis were released in 2009. The nail polish is limited edition but may be available although difficult to come by. I have been to a few Chanel counters and it was already sold out. The Rouge Allure Laque is getting discontinued, which is a right shame and the moment I read the news, I went out to hunt for Dragon as it is one of their best-selling and most elusive shades.

Burberry Lip Cover in Hibiscus ~ A Lush, Classic Red

In one of my rare excursions to Suria KLCC late last year, I stopped by Burberry to check out their cosmetics counter in Isetan. To be honest, I never really bothered visiting their counter because it just seems a tad bit plain and the display looks so boring. I suppose they are going for that "understated elegance" theme but come on, you'd need to liven up that place a little.

The sales assistant was a nice chap but he needed a lesson in respecting people's boundaries. When he applied the lipstick on me, he shoved his face really close to mine that we were nearly kissing (oh, my!). Or maybe he was just severely short-sighted?

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF15 in Passion

I certainly hope y'all have had a good 2011 and are looking forward to a more fabulous year ahead :-)

I have been meaning to order these Sugar Lip Treatments for a number of years now but never really got around to it. However our local Sephora has brought Fresh in, I'm not sure when but it may have been around two months ago. This makes me so happy! I have used a number of the face products before but these Lip Treatments weren't available back then.

The Sugar Lip Treatment each comes in a cardboard box. There is a colourless version, which is their mainstay lipbalm and there are four tinted versions in Honey, Rose, Plum and Passion.

Oh, Paul & Joe, You Make My Heart Sing New York, New York

Paul & Joe Fall 2011 makeup collection called Manhattan took inspiration from the glamorous New York City and launched a gorgeous range that was released in two parts. This collection recently reached our local shores and I have been anticipating its arrival for more than a month. There is a special set on offer with selected items from both parts of the series, so of course I had to get it.

I won't go into too much detail on the entire collection and you can refer to their website instead. This has to be one of the nicest Fall makeup releases in a while and I absolutely adore everything, which is quite rare because I tend to only like one or two items (or none at all) in most seasonal releases.

Face & Eye Color CS in Empire State (074) comprises of shimmery yellow-gold and dark grey strips that can be used alone or together. The combination is really pretty!

The Pencil Eye Liner WP is a shade called Upper East Side (001) and it's a steely charcoal with gold glitter. It is meant to be smudge-resistant and waterproof.

I am so happy the Nail Enamel that came with the set is the one I had intended to purchase as well. The City Never Sleeps (018) is a gorgeous, bold purple with flecks of gold and navy shimmer. I'd like to think that the colour was inspired by the inky night sky, illuminated by dazzling lights of New York City.

Paul & Joe introduces the newly formulated Lipstick M in this series and the colour NYC (002) is a brilliant jelly fuschia pink with bits of shimmer strewn through. It looks scary and bright but actually applies very sheerly and the finish is a pretty subdued pink that is slightly glossy and glittery. It is surprisingly easy to wear.

Influenced by the art deco designs of the city, the Color Palette in Chelsea (002) with shades for eyes and cheeks is a lovely combination of feminine yet daring colours. The brushes included are actually usable and quite good quality although I find the cheek brush rather small.

Overall, this promotional set does not disappoint and is very limited so I'd recommend that you hurry to your nearest Paul & Joe if you're interested. The set retails at RM360 and it comes with full-sized items.

Note:
I will try doing swatches and individual reviews soon!

At the time of writing, the SA has not received the full product pricing yet and the list below is based on her estimates. I will continue updating the price list as and when I receive more information.

Product Pricing (Updated 20th Nov 2011):
• Color Palette - RM154
• Face & Eye Color CS - RM117
• Pencil Eye Liner WP - RM60 ++ (price to be confirmed)
• Lipstick M - RM87
• Nail Enamel - RM52

Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Classic Red

I have a new found love for red lipsticks these days. Since getting the Dior Addict in Red Carpet, I have been rather hooked on wearing bold, red lips. When domncroxd from Belle Demoiselle offered a red lipstick up for swap during a recent meetup, I pounced on it immediately (she's a silly girl for giving up such a beautiful red lipstick).

I believe this was offered as part of a gift with purchase (GWP) from a previous collection and the tube is smaller than the full-sized Estee Lauder lipsticks. Also, I must be getting old because I actually find the gold packaging to be rather elegant when I used to think that they look dated. My taste has definitely evolved as I put more years behind me.

Dior Addict Lipstick in Red Carpet

There has been a number of exciting lipstick releases this year but I was completely distracted by the launch of Chanel Rouge Coco Shine that the other releases were pretty much put on the back burner. A few weeks ago, I met up with a couple of friends and they managed to convince me to get a Dior Addict lipstick in a shade called Red Carpet.

The Dior Addict lipsticks were relaunched earlier this year and they have tweaked the packaging a little and improved on the formula. According to Dior, these lipsticks are made with 25% less wax compared to most brands and this allows the gel formula to glide on better.

Dior Addict lipsticks are divided into three Iconic themes, which are Rock Icon, Doll Icon and Glam Icon. Red Carpet (#963) falls in the Glam Icon category and it epitomises the bold, rich colours in the collection.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm

In the past month, I have been asking for these Chubby Sticks at a Clinique counter and they were always out of stock. When the SA called me last Thursday to inform me that they finally have them available, I immediately booked two and picked them up after work on Friday evening.

The reason why I wanted one so badly was because I've been reading so many fantastic reviews online and the raves really had my interest piqued.

I must say most of the raves I've read are pretty spot-on. Not only are these sticks fat and quite cute looking, the formula is emollient and lightweight similar to a tinted lipbalm. They feel very comfortable on my lips. The colours go on rather sheer so if you're looking for something stronger, the Chubby Sticks are probably not your best choice.

Sadly, the Clinique counter I went to only brought in 4 shades. I'm not certain whether the other counters have more colours available. I came home with Whole Lotta Honey and Mega Melon. When swatched, they both look a little similar but that's because Chubby Sticks are not heavy on colour. They wear off quite quickly too but I don't mind it so much since reapplying them is a breeze.

Overall, I am quite happy with these and can see myself using them in place of my colourless lipbalms at work. The Chubby Stick does not require sharpening (although it looks like it) as it has a swivel mechanism at the bottom.

Clinique Chubby Sticks are available at most Clinique counters for RM50 each. I suppose this can be considered pricey since it is essentially just a lipbalm in cute packaging :-)

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine

When I heard Chanel was coming out with a glossier and more moisturising version of the fabulous Rouge Coco lipsticks, I really couldn't wait to try them out. Well, they are here on our local shores now!

The colours are really pretty in this collection and there's nothing outrageous or fancy about them. Trust Chanel to stick to safe and classic shades.

Introductory Post | FOTD and Review: Revlon - Beyond Natural Liptint SPF 15

Why, hello! I'm a new blogger here on Beautycab. I'm a fellow beauty product/makeup junkie. It all started with a Maybelline Watershine Diamonds lipstick that my sister (the blogowner) purchased for me when i was 11. And it was from then on, i was hooked. :)

I've recently fallen for nude faces lately, and the following fotd was inspired by that look.

I applied Loreal's True Match foundation followed by Maybelline's Clear Smooth Minerals powder foundation to set it. Overall, it evened out my skin and covered any redness on it. On the cheeks, i applied a very light sweep of Mac's blusher in Pink Swoon to avoid looking too washed out. My current favourite product that i used above is Revlon's Beyond Natural Liptint (reviewed below).

The liptint comes in a metallic plastic packaging. Upon opening it, it has a distinct but light cherry smell, which i really like. The shade above is in rosy, which looks like a peach-hued red.

This liptint was really moisturising without being too oily, glossy or shiny. Two coats of this stuff and your lips will look (and smell) that much 'yummier'. It is not very long-lasting or pigmented, though, if that's what you're looking for. I had to reapply after dinner but i usually reapply lippy after dinner so it does not really matter anyway.

However, the liptint has been discontinued. The Beyond Natural line is still ongoing so i will definitely check that out. I highly recommend this product for anyone who adores tinted lip balms without it being too buttery.

Stay beautiful!

Kiss Me Heroine Make Liquid Rouge - Pink and Pretty

I have always been attracted to cutesy, girlie packaging and when I saw these lip glosses from Kiss Me (Japan), it was rather difficult to resist them. Kiss Me Heroine Make has a small but wonderful line of makeup and they are mostly known for their mascaras.

There are three shades available and they are all fairly sheer with a hint of golden shimmer. I did not get the first shade (01) as it was the lightest and contained the most shimmery bits. My lips are rather pigmented so anything too light will not show up on me.

The two shades shown here are in Berry Rose (03) and Apricot Rose (02).

The Liquid Rouge are described as a combination of lip gloss with lipstick but they lack the intensity of lipsticks.

Although they may look pigmented on the back of my hand, do bear in mind that I piled dollops of gloss on to get them to show. On my lips, they are very sheer and glossy without much colour at all. But I love the moisturising quality of these glosses and they feel really soft and buttery. They are not as sticky as most other glosses, which is a good thing because that's one of the reasons why I stopped using lip gloss for some time. The foam tip applicator is quite flexible and easy to use too.

Kiss Me Heroine Make Liquid Rouge are available at Sasa boutiques and sold at RM39.90 each. Considering that each tube has 7g worth of product, I find the price to be reasonable.

Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shines for Perfect Summer Lips

About a month ago, I came across the Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shines with SPF 15 and was really excited to try them out. I think they used to carry a similar product some time back but the new ones were launched as part of the summer 2010 collection and have been re-formulated.

The Lip Shines come in an array of 12 colours that range from neutral to bold. Some contain shimmer but they are not too glittery that you'd look like you have disco on your lips. They remind me of MAC Slimshines that came out some years back (but are no longer available) except that the Lip Shines are more pigmented and have better moisturising properties.

Description :
Lightweight, soft shine lipstick that doubles as a rejuvenating moisture treatment. It instantly comforts dry, chapped lips and provides long-term moisturization with natural Cocoa and Shea Butters, Jojoba, Apricot Kernel and Avocado oils. Peptides, along with Vitamin C, stimulate collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, while SPF15 helps prevent future sun damage.

* left to right : Papaya and Nectarine *

Papaya is described as a bright pink coral and Nectarine as a pink nectar. Most shades are quite pigmented so if you are expecting a sheer wash of colour, you'd be in for a surprise. They are fairly lightweight but you can feel that they are emollient at the same time. I can use them without having to apply a lip balm first and they still go on smoothly. They are quite long-lasting and will survive past your first couple of drinks but it won't really last throughout a meal. I like that they offer some sun protection too.

All in all, I think these are great for my lips but not so good on my wallet. Lip Shines are sold at Bobbi Brown counters / boutiques for RM80 each. Even so, I already plan to go back to get more colours because I love them that much :-)

reviews : revlon colorburst lipstick

I have never been fond of Revlon cosmetics, partially due to the packaging as I find them rather old fashion. Also, their products are not particularly exciting and the Revlon counters at our local drugstores are just a tad bit sad and limited. However, their new lipstick range called Colorburst seem to break the traditional Revlon "look" and after reading several rave reviews around the beauty blogosphere, I was really keen on trying them out and this was the first time in ages that I have bought something from Revlon.

Revlon Colorburst lipsticks are packaged in matte, black tubes with fishnet criss-crossings on the front and back. I think they look quite chic :-) If you are familiar with what other Revlon products look like, you will know that this new packaging is definitely more up-to-date.

The top of each cap has the colour of the lipstick painted over. This is useful if you store your lipsticks upright and you can pick up the shade you're after immediately. I personally think it mars the packaging slightly as I would prefer an all black tube because it looks more sleek. That aside, the lipstick tube is pretty sturdy and cool to touch and closes with a proper, tight click. This is important to me because I have a few lipstick tubes that don't close well and they are prone to being dropped.

* Revlon Colorburst in Mauve *

* Revlon Colorburst in Blush *

* Revlon Colorburst in Peach *

* left to right : mauve, blush, peach *

Description :
• Luxurious, rich color that feels virtually weightless.
• Instant burst of rich, true color with a featherlight feel.
• Elasticolor™ technology provides immediate color release and hugs lips with a burst of weightless color that feels like a second skin.

The texture of Revlon Colorburst lipstick is quite creamy although if you have very dry lips, it's best to use a lipbalm first because it will cake around any dry patch on your lips. They are not high on shimmer but they do go on with some shine. The lipsticks are unscented, which is a good thing because I have used Revlon lip products in the past and they had really strange fruity scents.

You need to be aware that these lipsticks are quite soft and may break easily. When I swatched the colour Mauve, it nearly broke off its base! I had to stick it in the fridge to harden it. This is not a long-lasting lipstick and will start to fade after a couple of hours or so. I have read some people calling this a sheer lipstick but I seem to be able to get pretty good colour payoff after two swipes on my lips.

There are eight shades available locally :
Blush, Fuschia, Mauve, Peach, Plum, Sienna, Soft Nude, True Red

Availability :
Revlon Colorburst lipsticks are available at most local drugstores and cost RM39 each.
