review : my beauty diary - strawberry yogurt mask

We have finally entered the last day of the My Beauty Diary masking series. I spent seven days with seven different masks because I was curious to see if the One Week Package would actually make a difference and I think it has. My skin is feeling more hydrated recently and starting to look brighter. Quite a success although I probably will not embark on this one week series again, well not anytime soon that is. The last mask left in the box was the Strawberry Yogurt.

Purpose :
This mask is mainly to brighten, improve fine lines and control oil secretion. This is recommended for all skin types, especially combination skin.

Verdict :
I'm a sucker for cutesy packaging and this is the cutest of the lot :-) The mask smells like strawberry milkshake, not a scent I'm particularly fond of. It did not seem as "wet" as the other MBD masks and the essence absorbs pretty quickly, leaving my skin quite smooth. I did not leave the mask for longer than 20 minutes because I could not tolerate the smell. It was a bit too sickly sweet for me. The effects were all right, my skin did not appear brighter but it felt soft to touch. This was the most disappointing MBD mask I've tried but I've read several good reviews on it so it may work for others, just not on me.

Ingredient List :
Purified Water, Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, 1,3 Butylene Glycol, Triethanol amine, Tween 20, Yogurt, Hyaluronic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Algae, Malva sylvestris, Arctostaphylos uva ursi, Saccharum officinarum, Acer Saccharum, Citrus medica Limonum, Vaccinium myrtillus, Styrene/acrylates copolymer, Dimethylsilanol hyaluronate, Propyl Paraben, Methyl Paraben, Carbomer, Polyglutamic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Fragariavria vesca Fruit Extract, Citrus Anrantium Dulcis Fruit Extract

Availability :

The Strawberry Yogury mask came in a One Week Package box consisting of seven different "flavours", one mask for each day. It is sold at Guardian Pharmacy and I bought mine for RM34.88, so each mask works out to be approximately RM5.

Overall :

♥ ♥
... Nothing special, smells a little putrid after a while. Did leave my skin feeling smooth but most of these sheet masks do anyway.

review : my beauty diary - bulgarian white rose mask

When I bought the My Beauty Diary One Week Package, I didn't think I would use it up in a week at that time. But inspiration struck me after using that first mask and I decided to use the entire box in seven days. I am now in day six and I must say my skin is looking better since. I don't know if it's because I'm a lot more vigilant with taking care of my skin or whether all this masking had helped.

Description (from Sasa) :
My beauty Diary Bulgarian White Rose Mask realizes translucent and white skin. It is ideal for all skin types, especially dull skin.

Perform translucent and white skin: containing Bulgarian White Rose hydrosol, it soothes and hydrates skin. Blended with licorice and kiwi essence, it whitens and nourishes skin, for bright, fine, translucent and white skin.

Leave skin watery and soft: natural hydrating ingredients including aloe, cucumber, seaweed and botanic collagen, instantly hydrate and energize skin, keeping skin watery and youthful.

Amazing Nanospheres Technology: Structured with plenty of tiny holes, it enhances absorption of nourishment, leaving skin moisturized.

Verdict :
Let me start by saying I am absolutely delighted by the scent of this mask. It smells of rose water, which is one of my most favourite type of floral scents because it's so soothing. As with most sheet masks, it goes on wet and cool and the essence absorbs quickly. I left it on for nearly 45 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing fragrance wafting around me. Upon removal of the mask, I noticed my face appeared brighter than before. Maybe my eyes were deceiving me but it seemed to work better in the "whitening" department compared to the Japanese Cherry Blossom mask. Or maybe my skin is getting fairer from all the masking I've been doing. Or maybe it's just my imagination. I don't know and I don't care because I love this mask. I am definitely getting a full box the next time I visit Guardian Pharmacy.

Ingredient List :
Purified Water, Vegetal Collagen, 1,3-Butylene Glycol, Glycerine, Algae, Propylene Glycol, Aloe, Licorice, Kiwi, Arnica, Pineapple, Bulgarian Rose Water, Cucumber, Hyaluronic Acid , Nanospheres, Bio-Active Silanols, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Triethanolamine , Tween 20, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Perfume

review : my beauty diary - japanese cherry blossom mask

My husband probably thinks I'm insane by now. He sees me every night with a white sheet slapped on my face. I won't be surprised if he starts having nightmares about me appearing like a ghost. I am now well into day five of My Beauty Diary masking series. Just two more days to go and I will complete the One Week Package. The great thing about having a box full of variety is that I get to try different masks to gauge what's working and what's completely useless. This evening I used the Japanese Cherry Blossom mask.

Description (from Sasa) :
Whitening and refreshing
Japanese Somei-Yoshino Cherry Extract perform triple functions including whitening, soothing and firming. Blended with Extracts of Lemon and Kiwi, it refreshes and softens skin. Soaked in thread of Sakura aroma, skin appears pinky white.

Brightening and soothing

Extracts of Arnica and Aloe soothe, repair and nourish skin. After use, skin glows with freshness.

Verdict :

This mask has a soft floral scent that's slightly powdery. Quite a number of Japanese sakura fragranced products seem to have the same type of smell though. The scent wasn't overwhelming and I was grateful for that although it did linger for a bit. The essence was the stickiest so far and tackiness did not go away as quickly as the others. For a mask claiming to whiten and refresh, I think it did just that. This mask made my skin look brighter than the Pearl ones! I still think the Red Wine mask is a lot better, not only did it make my fat face appear more taut, it also worked to brighten my skin. I am not sure if I would get this again because I do not love that slightly clammy feeling it left behind.

review : my beauty diary - red wine mask

I cannot believe I am really doing a mask each day and am already at day four of the My Beauty Diary masking series. I am honestly surprised my skin has not turned purple by now :-) For a short moment, I couldn't decide which mask to use but I read that the Red Wine mask is supposed to be firming and thought it would be a nice change from the whitening masks I tested out the past two evenings.
Description (from Sasa) :
My Beauty Diary Red Vine Mask whitens, tightens skin and fights against oxidization. It is ideal for all skin types, especially loose and dull skin.

Antioxidant: contains polyphenols in Flavonoid serves as an effective antioxidant to fight against free radicals and suppress the formation of collagen dissolvent, keeping skin elastic.

Convergent skin and boost circulation: Anthocyans and tannins boost circulation and convergent skin, leaving skin white and tight with natural blush.

Amazing Nanospheres Technology: Structured with plenty of tiny holes, it enhances absorption of nourishment, leaving skin moisturized.

Verdict :
I didn't expect much from this mask as I thought both the Pearl ones were just okay. Upon opening the sachet, I was greeted by a sparkly, grape-like scent that smelled a little alcoholic too. But I was pretty sure the MBD masks do not contain alcohol. The scent faded after a while so it didn't bother me much. The essence was not as sticky as the previous masks and absorbed fairly quickly, leaving my skin feeling quite smooth. I usually massage any excess on my neck and upper chest area. I left it on for 45 minutes while I puttered around for a bit. The results were excellent, my face actually felt a little firmer and my skin looked brighter. I have a rather round face and am always worried my chipmunk cheeks will one day sag down to my knees. I don't envisage any miracles and highly doubt the effects will last for long. However, I liked how my face felt and will most likely repurchase this mask.

review : my beauty diary - pearl powder mask

It is now day three of the My Beauty Diary masking series. Since I used the Black Pearl mask yesterday evening and did not really witness any visible whitening results, I decided to try the Pearl Powder mask today to see if it works better. I absolutely love that MBD came out with a variety box set as I get to try a different mask each day. After a stressful day at work, it is especially nice to have something relaxing to look forward to and I do find these masks quite enjoyable.

Description (from Sasa) :
My Beauty Diary Pearl Powder Mask whitens nourishes and revitalizes skin. It is ideal for all skin types, especially dull and damaged skin.

Creates translucent and whitened skin: Super fine pearl powder contains various amino acid and microelements which permeate into skin, performing watery and white skin. Mulberry peel essence hydrates skin.

Revitalizes and nourishes skin: Vitamin B and seaweed complex revitalize and nourish skin while licorice and citrus ingredients condition and nourish skin.

Amazing Nanospheres Technology: Structured with plenty of tiny holes, it enhances absorption of nourishment, leaving skin moisturized.

Verdict :
Just like the Black Pearl mask, this contains several irritants which may be a problem to some people. However, I have not experienced any negative effects with any of the MBD masks so far and my skin is usually quite sensitive. The essence seemed stickier than the other two I have tried but once absorbed, the tacky feeling went away. There was a slight floral scent but it did not bother me at all. Did the mask work as it was meant to? Well, I would say it brightened my skin a little more than the Black Pearl but the effect was temporary. All in all, it was a nice mask although I am not sure I would repurchase the Pearl Powder on its own because there are better ones out there.

review : my beauty diary - black pearl mask

This is day two of My Beauty Diary masking series. I dug around the internet on whether it was all right to mask everyday and the general consensus with most sheet masks is that it will not kill you. In fact, quite a number of these masks are designed to be used daily. So, I took out the Black Pearl mask because it sounded rather exotic.

This mask is marketed mostly for whitening and to improve skin elasticity. Over the years, my skin has darkened because I did not use to apply sunblock as religiously. Also, the past few times I have traveled, I returned with sunburnt skin although I did not visit any warm destinations. My skin has improved in the last few months but it is not as fair as it was five years ago. It does not help that I live in a hot and tropical climate too.

Description (from Sasa) :
My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask whitens skin and restores elasticity for skin. It is ideal for all skin types, especially dull and loose skin.

Ultimate whitened skin: Ultimate whitening complex composed by black pearl extracts is a beauty ingredient containing amino acid and microelements. Blended with marine and botanical essences, it activates skin’s natural hydrating and whitening mechanism, leaving skin silky and radiant.

Leaves skin elastic and translucent: Natural vitamin C extracted from pineapple, rum and cucumber boosts metabolism and removes cuticles for fine, refresh, watery and white skin. Deep nourishment restores skin’s elasticity. Skin is revitalized and perfect.

Amazing Nanospheres Technology: Structured with plenty of tiny holes, it enhances absorption of nourishment, leaving skin moisturized.

Verdict :
I did not feel any itchiness or tightness when I had the mask on, which was a good thing because I have read that it contains a few irritants that some people cannot tolerate. My skin is usually quite sensitive and prone to rashes but I did not experience any adversity. The essence was slightly tackier than the Aloe mask I tried yesterday but my skin felt smooth once it was absorbed. There was a faint powdery scent that I found quite pleasant. I left the mask on for 45 minutes as I was enjoying the cooling sensation. Upon removing, my skin felt a wee bit sticky but that went away soon after. I did not see any visible "whitening" effects, which was a small letdown.

Availability :

It is sold at Guardian Pharmacy and I bought mine for RM34.88, so each mask works out to be approximately RM5. I have seen MBD masks sold cheaper online but I am chicken-shit when it comes to ordering from unknown sources because I have read that there are fake versions out there. It is rather funny... pirated masks.

Ingredient List :

Purified Water, 1, 3-Butylene Glycol, Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, Aloe, Hyaluronic Acid, Pineapple, Alage, Cucumber, Lime Tree, Triethanolamine, Methyl Paraben, Algae-Yeast Complex, Bio-Active Silanols, Lecithin, Nanospheres, Vegetale Collagen, Citric Acid, Royal Pearl

Overall :
... Not loving it and not hating it either.

review : my beauty diary - aloe mask

I have been reading beauty blogs again and came across a number of them that mentioned My Beauty Diary masks from Taiwan. I became quite excited when I read somewhere that they are available in Malaysia.  I found them at Guardian Pharmacy and the set I bought was a One Week Package with seven different masks in a box. It costs RM34.88, which was a discounted price? I'm not really sure.

As I am writing this review, I have the aloe mask slapped on my face. Anyway, the One Week Package contains a pack each of Japanese Cherry Blossom, Strawberry Yogurt, Pearl Powder, Black Pearl, Red Wine, Bulgarian White Rose and Aloe.

Description (from Sasa) :

My Beauty Diary Aloe Mask provides hydration and nourishments for skin. It is ideal for all skin types, especially dry and damaged skin.

Hydrate and repair skin: Natural aloe extracts contain various vitamins which provide hydration and nourishment for skin. Rose essence is contained to repair dry and rough skin.

Revitalize and nourish skin: Seaweed-yeast complex contains rich amino acid and microelements to nourish skin. Hyaluronic acid extracted by biological technology is an efficient hydrating ingredient, allowing watery and smooth skin.

Amazing Nanospheres Technology: Structured with plenty of tiny holes, it enhances absorption of nourishment, leaving skin moisturized.

Verdict :

I left the mask on for more than 30 minutes, until the sheet felt cool and dry. The mask did not leave any sticky residue and the serum was absorbed quite nicely. My skin felt moisturised and looked a little brighter but I do not know how long that will last. I did not detect any noticeable scent on the mask and did not experience any strange tingly or itchy sensations. All in all, I am pretty satisfied with it.

I don't know if I should try out a different mask tomorrow or if I should give it a day's rest in between? Is it ok to mask every night? I am pretty sure the "7 Day" pack is some kind of marketing gimmick to get people to use more masks. Perhaps it's time to research a bit more on whether there is such a thing as over-masking :-)
