review : maybelline angelfit flawless natural liquid foundation

The quest for perfect looking skin can be a difficult one. Over the past few months, I have been trying out a variety of foundations, always hoping to create that smooth canvas of skin, which every woman who wears foundation is after. Ever since hitting puberty (erm... many moons ago), my skin has been a mess and it is still a mess. I still suffer from hormonal breakouts and have little bumps on my forehead (thankfully the amount is lesser). I probably have rosacea since my cheeks and forehead are quite ruddy. Not to mention the dark undereye circles and old blemish scars too.

You see, there are many, many things to correct. Besides the discoloured and uneven skin, I have to worry about its condition as well. Not only is it dehydrated but the t-zone is rather oily. It is an arduous task to find products that can balance out all these problems and this is why I am still hunting.

Liquid foundation was a beauty product I had stayed away from for at least six years. The last time I used it, I had really bad breakouts *cough* MAC *cough*. But it could have been due to not having a double-cleansing routine at that time because oil cleansers were relatively new to the market. Liquid foundations felt heavier and rather mask-like too, so when two-way cakes (powder foundations) started picking up its popularity, I hopped on the powder train and have not looked back since. Until recently, that is.

Verdict :
The coverage from Maybelline Angelfit Flawless Natural Liquid Foundation (quite a mouthful, ain't it?) is quite sheer for a liquid but is buildable. The shade I use is Natural Ivory (C03) and is a good match for my skin. The foundation imparts a slight glow thanks to something Maybelline calls "pink pearls" but it's not super shiny nor greasy. It does help tone down the redness on my face and conceal some old blemish scars. I find that I have to blot after four or five hours but that's quite normal because my t-zone is oily. If you use a mattifying loose powder to set the foundation, it should give you more mileage before having to blot or touch up. I used Shu Uemura's UV Underbase Mousse SPF30/PA+++ (Pink) as a primer and it does help the foundation stay fresh-looking for longer.

The formula is pretty runny so you need to be careful when pumping onto the back of your hand. As it is quite lightweight, my face doesn't feel like it's suffocated compared to using most liquid foundations. And I finally found a use for the MAC 187 stippling brush! I cannot remember why I bought it in the first place as I wasn't using any liquid or cream cosmetics back then. The brush works perfectly with the Maybelline Angelfit. I only need to use two very teensy-weensy pumps for my entire face and jaw line.

Pros :
  • Provides sheer to medium coverage.
  • Lightweight formula.
  • Looks very natural if not used with a heavy hand.
  • Evens out skin tone and redness.
  • Affordable and easily accessible.
  • Glass bottle with pump means it's sturdy and hygienic.
Cons :
  • Does not control oil as it is not meant to be a matte foundation but it does not make me super greasy.
  • Colour choices may be limited for darker skin tones.
  • May not offer enough coverage for some.
  • Glass bottle is not travel friendly.
